• Gender and Broadside Ballads

This project examines gender constructions that authors of the seventeenth century used in broadside ballads. This project examines the gendered ways that women are depicted in broadside ballads and assesses how they reflect social, political and religious concerns of the period set against the background of traditional gender norms. I argue that the broadside ballads police the presecribed gender roles at a time of great change and social and political society.
